Coursework Completion Credits

Master’s Program

24 credits or more including compulsory courses (including credits from undergraduate-related courses)
However, if the major of the master's program is different from the major of the undergraduate program, the student must complete the undergraduate courses designated by their department (hereinafter referred to as "designated courses") until the completion of the coursework.

- Similar major: Complete 9 credits or more (3 credits per course)
- Other major: Complete 18 credits or more (3 credits per course)
- Similar or other major: Students can register for undergraduate-designated courses for up to 6 credits each semester

Credits completed in designated courses are not included in the credits for completion of coursework. If you do not complete the courses, you cannot submit a thesis for your degree.
Transfer students: Transfer students in the 2nd semester will get recognition for 9 credits, and 15 credits or less for transfer students in the 3rd semester, from the previous graduate school, and these credits are included in the credits for completion of coursework. (However, the thesis special research seminar is recognized as 1 credit)

Doctoral Program

Students must complete at least 60 credits including credits recognized from the master's degree. In the doctoral program, credits earned in the master's program are recognized for up to 30 credits through a predetermined evaluation, and are counted toward the completion of the coursework. (However, up to 24 credits are recognized for graduates of special graduate schools)
Transfer students: For transfer students in the 2nd semester, the up to 9 credits completed from the previous graduate school are recognized. Transfer students in the 3rd semester will be get recognition for up to 18 credits, and these are recognized for graduation credits (However, the thesis special research seminar is recognized as 1 credit).

Combined Master’s and Doctoral Program

More than 60 credits including required courses (including credits from undergraduate-related courses)

However, if you give up the combined master's and doctoral program but meet the criteria for conferment of a master's degree, the master's program is applied.
