Graduate School

History

Kwangwoon University Graduate School was established based on the fundamental philosophy of democratic education and the founding philosophy of diligence, sincerity, frugality, and thrift practice, with the purpose of cultivating holistic professionals who can contribute to the development of the nation and mankind, through professional research and education of the profound academic knowledge required by the high industrial society and the information age and its application methods.

Dec. 15, 1979 - Established the graduate school
- 36 students for master's program
- Established 2 new departments for the master's program: Electronics Engineering (18 students), Electronics and Communications Engineering (18 students)
Dec. 07, 1979 - Inauguration of Poong-Jin Jeon, Ph.D. as the first Graduate School Dean
July 11, 1980 - Inauguration of the 2nd Graduate School Dean Jung-hyeon Cho, J.D.
Nov. 03, 1980 - Increased the number of graduate students and created new departments in accordance with the revision of school regulations
- Increased the number of master's programs students to 70
- Established 3 new departments for the master's program: Electrical Engineering, Electronic Computing, Business Administration
Nov. 25, 1981 - Established 1 new department in accordance with the revision of school regulations: Electronic Materials Engineering
July 01, 1982 - Permission of quota system for each degree program (Applied from Mar. 1, 1982)
Nov. 22, 1982 - Increased the number of graduate students in accordance with the revision of school regulations
- Increased the number of students for master's programs to 78
Feb. 14, 1983 - Inauguration of the 3rd Graduate School Dean Guk-cheol Seo, Ph.D. in Engineering
Oct. 29, 1983 - Increased the number of graduate students and created new departments in accordance with the revision of school regulations
- Increased the number of students for master's programs to 108
- Increased the number of students for doctoral programs to 36
- Established 1 new department for the master's program: Computer Engineering
- Established 6 new departments for the doctoral program: Electronics Engineering, Electronics Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Computing, Electronic Material Engineering, Business Administration
Nov. 27, 1984 - Increased the number of graduate students and created new departments in accordance with the revision of school regulations
- Increased the number of students for master's programs to 120
- Increased the number of students for doctoral programs to 46
- Established 2 new departments for the master's program: International Trade, Public Administration
- Established 1 new department for the doctoral program: Electronic Calculator Engineering

Mar. 01, 1987 - Inauguration of the 5th Graduate School Dean In-eung Yang, Doctor of Engineering

Nov. 09, 1987 - Increased the number of graduate students and created new departments in accordance with the revision of school regulations

Nov. 08, 1990 - Increased the number of graduate students and created new departments in accordance with the revision of school regulations
- Increased the number of students for master's programs to 162
- Established 2 new departments for the master's program: Chemistry, Law
Mar. 01, 1991 - Inauguration of the 7th Graduate School Dean Chang-wook Kim, Ph.D. in Engineering
Nov. 15, 1991 - Increased the number of graduate students and created new departments in accordance with the revision of school regulations
- Increased the number of students for master's programs to 207
- Increased the number of students for doctoral programs to 84
- Established 4 new departments for the master's program: Control Measurement Engineering, Chemistry, Korean Language and Literature
- Established 1 new department for the doctoral program: Chemical Engineering

Nov. 02, 1996 - Changed the quota of graduate students to the admission quota system in accordance with the revision of the school regulations
- Increased the number of admissions for the master's program to 246 (total number of enrolled students: 458)
- Established 4 departments of master's programs: Radio Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Korean Language and Literature, English Language and Literature
- Increased the number of admissions for the doctoral program to 50 (total number of enrolled students: 134)
- Changed from the total quota system to the admission quota system from 1997 according to the policy of the Ministry of Education
Feb. 20, 1997 - Established Microprocessor Training Center supported by Samsung Electronics
